Hitch Locks
Having a tow hitch lock for your trailer or caravan is a requirement for insurance in some circumstances and it also acts as a visual deterrent to an opportunist thief. Although the last thing when you have bought a caravan is to spend more money on a security device it does mean that a summer holiday is not ruined.
Tow Bar Hitch Locks
Popular hitches include Alko, Al-Ko, Winterhoff or Bradley and you will need to choose a hitch lock that is compatible with your trailer or caravan. As with wheel clamps hitch locks are tested by Sold Secure to different ratings which meet the standards to be insurance approved. Please call us if you are not sure which model you require to suit your hitch.
Other types of security available for caravans and trailers are hitching posts, these are secured into concrete and work in conjunction with a hitch lock. It is also worth noting that some caravan insurance companies will give you money off your policy if you install both these methods of security.
Of course preventative methods are not just limited to a lock or hitching post and we recommend like with car security that you ensure your trailer or caravan when not in use is stored at a site that is secure. Other protection worth considering is a tracking device, CCTV and security lights. We also recommend removing all belongings and ensuring you have the serial numbers of any accessories if you have a caravan or trailer tent.
There are dedicated companies whom you can contact to store you caravan when it is not in use and the CaSSOA (Caravan Storage Site Owners Associatation) has a directory of accredited sites which will ensure your pride and joy is secure from theft when it is not in use. These sites are dotted all over the UK and have different ratings depending on the standard of the facilities. Similarly you may want to also consider where you store your trailer when it is not in use to ensure it is suitably secured.
Caravan and Trailer Hitch Locks
Hitch locks are an effective and visible anti-theft device that can provide a deterrent to opportunist thieves. These locks cover the hitch and prevent thieves from attaching your caravan or trailer to their own car and towing it away, this gives you peace of mind. To choose your hitch lock you first need to know the type of hitch head that is on your trailer or caravan. If you are not sure please feel free to email us a picture and we will help identify the right model.
Most of the hitch locks we feature are of an enclosed type which provides protection from the elements and makes it extra secure and guarded against tampering. These locks are ideal if you live in an exposed area or anywhere that is exposed to the elements.
All our listed hitch locks with the exception of GA95 and AV are tested to Gold Standard by Sold Secure and therefore Insurance approved. Some brokers based on this will offer you a discount on your premium.
