What Protection does a Fire Safe Box Have?
If you are looking for a small and cheap fire resistant safe, then a fire resistant box might be an interesting option. Fire resistant boxes are tested for 1/2 or 1 hour and certified according to the American standard UL or ETL. All boxes and suitcases have a special sealing that ensures that no damage occurs through extinguishing water.
The UL Class 350 nomination concerns the fire resistance of paper. During this severe fire-resistant test, the temperatures inside the box must not exceed 177 degrees Celsius, as this is the critical limit above which paper will ignite.
ETL relates to the fire resistance of digital media. During this test, a box is tested for fire resistance. In addition, the box had to pass an additional drop test of 4.5 meters without the construction collapsing. An ETL certified box is suitable for digital media such as USB sticks, hard external hard drives, etc.
