What is an AiS Safe?
An Insurance Approved Safe has been independently tested by security laboratories and are approved by the British Association of Insurance Surveyors. A test certificate is provided for each safe stating the insurance rating that it meets in terms of cash and valuables.
Suitable Rating: Which do I Select?
Cash ratings for approved models start at £2,000 which is multiplied by 10 to get the valuables rating which in this example would be £20,000. Cash and valuable ratings are based on overnight storage and not how much you can keep in the safe in terms of space. If you are looking to secure larger amounts of cash or high end valuables then we would recommend a high security safe.

Many of our AiS insurance approved safes include a fire rating on them which ranges from 30 minutes to 120 minutes. This helps towards that greater peace of mind when you are looking for protection on paper documents, wills and deeds.
AiS Safe Testing
AiS approved safes have been tested by independent and impartial surveyors when the testing of each safe is undertaken. These safes will have to meet a certain standard and specification if they are to be approved. Testing will commence and once all these tests have been passed then a safe can then be classified as AiS Approved. The insurance industry will always prefer you to choose an AiS Safe. AiS will look at a variety of products from different security companies.

Installation of an Insurance Approved Safe
Insurance approved safes are required to be bolted down unless they weigh over a tonne in weight so always check where you are able to install your safe before purchasing to ensure you get the right safe. The cash and valuables rating of each security safe is important as it is worth calculating on what is required to be stored within your safe.
DID YOU KNOW? AiS approved safes will be more expensive than other safes you might see for a similar rating however your insurance company may not pay out if it is not an approved to a specific rating. We recommend always checking with your insurer before purchasing.
