What is EN1143-1?

EN1143-1 is a European security standard for security safes and cabinets. Rigorous tests are carried out on these safes so that it meets the standards of EN1143-1.

Your insurance company will normally require the fixing of a grade 3 safe to be installed into a concrete floor or solid wall. Please contact your insurance company for further confirmation on their requirements.

£35,000 Cash / £350,000 Valuables Rating

Grade 3 safes come with an insurance rating of £35,000 for cash and £350,000 for valuables. (a valuables rating is always 10 times the value of the cash rating).

When purchasing a safe we recommend to calculate to see if you need a higher insurance rating, as you may look to store additional amounts of cash or valuables in the future.

An insurance can also suggest a certain cash or valuables rating that you require to meet when selecting a safe.

Key Lock or Electronic Lock?

The selection of the locking type is one of the main decisions when buying a safe. A Eurograde 3 safe has a EN 1300 Class B lock, a grade 3 will either come with a key locking or an electronic lock.

They both offer the same levels of security, the choice is more down to your personal preference. With a key lock you will have to hide and store the key securely in a memorable location. A electronic lock allows you access via a pin code and not have to store the key.

We always recommend if there is multiple users who require access to the safe then an electronic lock will be easier.

AiS Approved Safe – Grade 3

The vast majority of Eurograde 3 safes are AiS Approved. AiS (Association of Insurance Surveyors) are one of the main accreditation bodies in the UK.

Each safe will detail if it has been AiS approved or not. Along with an image displaying the AiS logo.

The Dimensions of a Eurograde 3 Safe

Before placing an order it is essential to double check the size and dimensions externally and internally of the safe. This is so that you can ensure that it will fit in the required location in your home or business.

We recommend to also consider the internal volume and dimensions of a safe so that you will have enough space to store your valuables and cash.

Fire Protection and Fire Rating

The various Eurograde 3 safes that are available will offer differing levels of fire protection. Some have no fire protection while others will have either 30 minutes or 60 minutes.
